I decided to DNA test my dog just out of curiosity.
I used Embark Vet for the test. It turns out he is a mixed-breed rescue that the shelter where I got him identified him as a shorthair Chihuahua x Cocker Spaniel mix.
I thought, "OK, whatever". But I still was curious as to his breed lineage.
The first DNA test pegged him as a mix of Chihuahua (which is obvious) and small Poodle - WHAT??!!. Look at that picture above, do you see any Poodle in him? Not that there's anything wrong with that. He also has some other breeds in him including Super Mutt. Here is his genetic breakdown:
25.8% Poodle (Small)
25.2% Chihuahua
10.5% Lhasa Apso
07.1% Pekingese
06.4% Cocker Spaniel
25.0% Supermutt
- Prague Ratter
- German Spitz
- Miniature Schnauzer
- American Water Spaniel
I'm getting him another DNA test from Wisdom Panel to cross-check for accuracy.
Update
The Wisdom Panel DNA test shows almost the same genetic breakdown as the Embark Vet DNA test shows.
